7: Birch Boys Founder Garrett Kopp: Functional Fungi, Forest Foes and Family Business

Kery Knutson Season 1 Episode 7

At the young age of 15 Garrett Kopp was inspired by his Grandmother to dive into the world of functional fungi.

At 18 and just one month after raising $60,000 to start his company, he lost his grandmother to pancreatic cancer. It was then that Birch Boys made it's official debut.

Garrett  describes his grandmother's journey as well as the role that functional fungi played with his dog, Joey's diagnosis.

Garrett is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to wild and cultivated mushrooms - fungi that our ancestors (across cultures) have been using for thousands of years.

And he has a big vision: to become a land-owning company who sets forth a more lucrative sustainable, ethical and well-rounded approach to forestry and private land stewardship.

We cover a lot of ground in this episode, so grab some mushroom tea and settle in for a listen.
